Spring 2022 Registration Process

MESD Outdoor School > For Student Leaders > Spring 2022 Registration Process

The process to register to be a Student Leader and participate in a week of Outdoor School or the 4th Grade Overnight program is a little different for the Spring of 2022.
At ANY step in this process, if you need to change information you have already submitted, you can e-mail us or call us to do so!
Please do not re-submit any online / Google forms.
 outdoorschool@mesd.k12.or.us - 503-257-1600

Step 1
Sign Up Online

  • This happens first: Sign up online at http://SignUp.4ODS.org
  • You must sign up every season that you want to participate. If you participated last fall, you still need to sign up again to participate in the spring.
  • This online registration system will generate an approval e-mail to your parent / guardian and to your school counselor. Make sure your parent sees it! The ODS office staff will make sure your counselor sees it.

Step 2
Schedule Your Interview

  • This happens first: Your parent / guardian approves your participation, and your school counselor approves your participation. Some school counselors approve right away, and some take a long time to get back to us.
  • We will send you a link to a Google Form asking you to choose an interview option. You can choose an informational meeting / group interview, or you can choose an individual phone interview. Either way, your questions will be these:
Why did you decide to be a Student Leader?
What are you most excited about for Outdoor School?
What are you most nervous about for Outdoor School?
Share your experience or desire to work with children.
Do you have any questions for us?

Step 3
Choose Your Weeks

  • This happens first: You have completed your interview, either one-on-one over the phone, or during an informational Zoom meeting. The Outdoor School staff have concluded that you are a good candidate to try serving as a Student Leader
  • We will send you a link to a Google Form asking for which weeks you are available to participate in Outdoor School. Check your own personal schedule and look for school events, important tests, family obligations, job shifts, appointments, sports, or anything else that might prevent you from being away at Outdoor School for the week. Be sure to mark "not available" for any of those conflicts!
  • The form will also ask if you have a friend or two you would like to be placed with, and if there are any staff members you have worked with before that you would like to work with again. We will do our best to honor these requests!

Step 4
Week Assignment

  • This happens first: You have submitted the Google Form telling us about your availability
  • We will assign you to a week that works for you. If your schedule changes, or you remember other scheduling constraints, contact us (outdoorschool@mesd.k12.or.us or 503-257-1600) to change your week.
  • You will receive a packet of forms via e-mail that you will need to print out and get signed. If you do not have the ability to print them out at home or school, we will mail you paper copies of them.

Step 5
Your Week!

  • This happens first: (everything below)
  • Be fully vaccinated (two weeks after your second dose), and submit your vaccine card to us — we already have your card if you participated in the fall.
  • Be healthy! If you are exhibiting any COVID symptoms, please stay home (and let us know that you need to reschedule as soon as you know you're staying home for whatever reason)
  • Fill out and bring all of your forms with you when you arrive. Remember to get them signed by your parent / guardian, your school counselor, and all your teachers.
  • Bring everything you might need on the packing list that was sent to you, and be sure to bring any homework you might need to catch up on during the week.
  • If you forget any of your paperwork on the day of, PLEASE COME ANYWAY! We can figure out your school permissions separately if needed.
