The Audubon Society of Portland is committed to equality of opportunity for all through equity practices, both in our workplace and in access to nature. (See our Diversity Statement, here.) Civic engagement and staff diversity are core strategic goals, as illuminated by the report Green 2.0 and formalized by board-approved strategy. The Audubon Society of Portland is an equal opportunity organization that does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, marital status, familial status, national origin, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
In partnership with Mount Rainier National Park, the University of Washington operates the Mount Rainier Institute. Mount Rainier Institute is a residential environmental education program. Our mission is to provide outstanding nature-based education experiences that are rooted in science and nurture the next generation of environmental stewards and leaders. We are looking for skilled educators to help establish a solid program with one of the nation’s iconic National Parks.
Environmental Education Instructors lead youth and adults through field science investigations, and teach a variety of topics such as bio-diversity, natural history, geology, forestry, resource management, and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest. EE Instructors have the opportunity for professional growth through the development of their naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of ongoing development of a relatively new residential environmental education program. At BCM, we work alongside the transformative powers of Mother Nature to leave a lasting impact on the lives of under-resourced youth. Our wilderness expeditions bring kids out of their comfort zones and into the wild, where they develop the confidence needed for more promising futures.
Our programs focus on improving the self-esteem, sense of responsibility, group communication and decision-making skills of nearly 1,000 youth annually. We engage youth in 7 cities across the country including Boston, Denver, Miami, Minneapolis, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle. Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) values a diverse workforce and seeks ways to promote equity and inclusion within the organization. PP&R encourages candidates with knowledge, ability and experience working with a broad range of individuals and diverse communities. Although not required, PP&R encourages candidates that can fluently speak another language to include that information in your resume.
Our staff love what they do and are passionate about connecting people with Mount St. Helens. We are a small and growing organization, seasonal opportunities can turn into long term positions and long term positions are evolving rapidly. We have offices in Vancouver and Chelatchie Prairie (Amboy) and work throughout the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Our work is exciting, challenging and rewarding. Our staff, volunteers and interns get to spend their time on one of the most amazing places on earth. We value creativity, open communication and flexibility.
