Andrea “Coho" HusseyOutdoor School Supervisor
(503) 257-1774 • ahussey@mesd.k12.or.us Andrea was bread and buttered in Portland Oregon. She attended Howard Outdoor School as a 6th grader and loved it. She returned as a student Leader and Animals Field Instructor at Collins, and became a Site Supervisor in 2003. Andrea has been the Site Supervisor of the Arrah Wanna, Howard, and Angelos sites. Each session brings new challenges, and she loves being a part of a Portland legacy. Andrea loves organized fun, and is nicknamed the Ambassador of F.U.N.. She enjoys time in her garden with her spouse and big goofy dog, and going on adventures with friends in the lovely state of Oregon. Andrea recently won the Grand Prize on the NPR radio game show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, and the charming Carl Kasell's voice is now on her outgoing voicemail.

Shauna “Chomps" StevensonShauna was born and raised in Portland and graduated from Centennial High School. She attended Collins ODS in 6th grade and volunteered throughout in high school at Trout Creek ODS, inspiring her desire to work with children and youth. After receiving a BS in Elementary Education in Utah, she returned as a Field Instructor at Howard ODS in 1998. She then served as the Education Director for the Friends of Tryon Creek State Park and earned an MS in Ecological Teaching and Learning from the Audubon Expedition Institute at Lesley University in Massachusetts. In 2004 she returned to work with the 4th Grade Overnight program, became a Site Supervisor in 2005 and hasn’t left, as playing dress up came naturally to her as a child and she can’t get enough. Missing science, Shauna worked to develop the winter Mazama Mountain Science School program in Government Camp, fitting since she took her first steps at Mt Hood Meadows while her family was out skiing. Now she gets to play and learn in the snow, and she gets to dress up as if she were from the 1800s. It’s the perfect fit.

Paul “Badger" Susi
Paul is from Portland, and a POC son of immigrants. As a 6th grader at Howard Outdoor School, Paul and his classmate Ronald composed the legendary song, "A Bug Went Up My Nose." Paul returned to ODS in 2016, but has not (yet) composed any more legendary songs. Paul has a deep appreciation for learning and continuing education—Paul coached and performed for PlayWrite, working with at-risk youth in non-traditional education settings (rehabilitation facilities, homeless shelters, etc), while also working as a youth advocate and direct support professional at New Avenues for Youth and Janus Youth Programs. Most recently, Paul has opened and led multiple homeless shelters through Transition Projects, and continues to serve as a Diversity and Equity Training Facilitator. Paul trained as a classical theater actor at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, and has also performed in Vermont, Santa Cruz, Poland, and the San Juan Islands. He currently works with NW Classical Theatre Collaborative, bringing theater to culturally under-served communities, prisons, libraries, and homeless shelters, and is an actor for the Red Door Project, presenting monologues written by survivors of racial profiling, and monologues written by police officers. Find clips and interviews at paulsusi.wordpress.com. Paul's favorite thing about Outdoor School is that it provides a rigorous, supportive educational experience out-of-doors, and offers the chance to encounter and explore new friends, environments, and information outside of our comfort zones, in the best way to help us grow and learn. Outdoor School was critical for Paul in learning to appreciate the environment and embrace the unknown with courage and humility (as he did during his brief stint as a Wildland Firefighter with the Sierra National Forest Hotshots), and he wants to do everything he can to pay those lessons forward.
