Social Media PresenceDO NOT give out social media contact information to students. It is possible that they will find and follow you on their own, but please do not help them to do so.
Please do not post photographs or use any identifying information (such as names) of student participants of MESD programs on any social media venue or anywhere else on the internet. It is, however, OK to post photographs of parts of students which cannot be identified. You may, for example, post photographs of the backs of heads, hands, or feet. Watch out for name tags in pictures, or clothing with names printed on the back. You may post written anecdotes about students with whom you interacted over the course of the week, but please choose an alias for the student so you are not posting their real name. Please make sure all related content is Outdoor School appropriate. If you have other aspects of your social media presence which may not be appropriate, please make sure that your profile is private, and cannot be found by parents or the general public. If you wish to keep your profile both public and inappropriate, please do not post anything about MESD programs. If you take photographs of other Student Leaders, please obtain permission from each of them before posting the photograph anywhere on the internet. |
Contacting StudentsStudent Leaders cannot initiate contact in any way with student participants from Outdoor School, 4th Grade Overnight, Passages Through Time, or other MESD programs after the end of the program. If a student contacts you, you must obtain permission from the student's parent or guardian prior to responding to the contact. Contact should be written mail only. No electronic contact is permitted.
To obtain permission, write your letter to the student, but address the envelope "To the parent / guardian of <student name>," and include a note to the parent or guardian inside the envelope. The parent or guardian can then read your letter and decide if they want to pass it on to their child, and whether they want their child to respond to your letter. |
