WHAT IS A FIELD INSTRUCTOR?
Field Instructors are responsible for developing and maintaining one of the field study areas on site. Outdoor School field studies include Water, Animals, Soil, and Plants. Field Instructors provide training and mentorship to high school Student Leaders by creating a nurturing and safe learning environment. Field Instructors are also responsible for providing written observations and evaluations for Student Leaders. Qualities important for a Field Instructor are: reliability, accountability, approachable, team player, empathetic, good communicator, good problem solver, and be able to take care of oneself. Field Instructors are also an integral component to child management on site, responsible for following the discipline procedures of Outdoor School. Field Instructors support Program Leaders and Student Leaders in facilitating community duties, interactions, and logistics throughout the week. |
