Animal Pictures and Facts
- Materials needed: Writing materials, marking pen, crayons, scissors, glue or paste, old wildlife magazines, paper.
- Draw or collect pictures of animals. Find at least four vertebrates and four invertebrates. Label the pictures and write at least four facts about each animal.
- Materials needed: Writing materials, paper, marking pens, crayons.
- Make a picture dictionary using the animal resource vocabulary words listed in the Student Preparation Book. Write the word and the definition on the paper. Draw a picture that illustrates or gives an example of the word and definition.

- In words or pictures and describe what the world would be like without animals.

- List the major characteristics for each type of animal and give examples which are found in Oregon.

- See instructions about poetry in the "Poetry" section. Write a poem about a favorite animal or Oregon animal. Draw a picture and display the poems and illustrations at Outdoor School and / or on a bulletin board at school.

- Design a food chain with five animals represented. Make a drawing and description of each animal, the type of home it has, what it eats, what animals are its predators, and how it is helpful or harmful to people.
- Materials needed: Writing materials, xerox copies of games and puzzles.
- Three examples of animal puzzles and activities have been included in this section. Xerox enough copies for your students.
- Materials needed: Writing materials, graph paper, vocabulary lists, xerox copies of the "Coordinate Graphing" or "Number Logic" masters.
- Word Search Games - Take the vocabulary list and write the words on the graph paper backwards, forwards, diagonally, vertically, horizontally. Fill in the extra squares with random letters until all the squares in your puzzle area are complete. Trade papers with another student and try and solve each other's puzzles.
- Crossword Puzzles - Use graph paper and put the animal vocabulary words into a crossword form. Number the squares and design clues for the vocabulary words. Make a final copy of the crossword leaving the squares blank for the answers. Have students trade papers and try and solve each other's crossword puzzle.
- Let your student try the "Coordinate Graphing" or "Number Logic" puzzle in the "More Word Finds and Puzzles" section. Xerox enough copies of the master "Coordinate Graphing" or "Number Logic" puzzles for your students. Let them make up their own puzzles to go with the activity. Have students trade papers and try and solve each other's puzzles.
