Outdoor School provides a way to take both kids and science beyond the classroom. Teaching science concepts in hands‐on ways provides opportunities for critical thinking and collaboration. Using small group instruction, students are challenged to use their own powers of observation and reasoning to come to an understanding of the natural world and the impact of humans on the environment. Students gain the experience of being a chemist, an explorer, a botanist and much more. In addition to the academic focus, students are also an integral part of creating a community that fosters awareness of diversity and the importance of personal responsibility.
