The Audubon Society of Portland is committed to equality of opportunity for all through equity practices, both in our workplace and in access to nature. (See our Diversity Statement, here.) Civic engagement and staff diversity are core strategic goals, as illuminated by the report Green 2.0 and formalized by board-approved strategy. The Audubon Society of Portland is an equal opportunity organization that does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, marital status, familial status, national origin, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
In partnership with Mount Rainier National Park, the University of Washington operates the Mount Rainier Institute. Mount Rainier Institute is a residential environmental education program. Our mission is to provide outstanding nature-based education experiences that are rooted in science and nurture the next generation of environmental stewards and leaders. We are looking for skilled educators to help establish a solid program with one of the nation’s iconic National Parks.
Environmental Education Instructors lead youth and adults through field science investigations, and teach a variety of topics such as bio-diversity, natural history, geology, forestry, resource management, and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest. EE Instructors have the opportunity for professional growth through the development of their naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of ongoing development of a relatively new residential environmental education program. At BCM, we work alongside the transformative powers of Mother Nature to leave a lasting impact on the lives of under-resourced youth. Our wilderness expeditions bring kids out of their comfort zones and into the wild, where they develop the confidence needed for more promising futures.
Our programs focus on improving the self-esteem, sense of responsibility, group communication and decision-making skills of nearly 1,000 youth annually. We engage youth in 7 cities across the country including Boston, Denver, Miami, Minneapolis, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle. Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) values a diverse workforce and seeks ways to promote equity and inclusion within the organization. PP&R encourages candidates with knowledge, ability and experience working with a broad range of individuals and diverse communities. Although not required, PP&R encourages candidates that can fluently speak another language to include that information in your resume.
Our staff love what they do and are passionate about connecting people with Mount St. Helens. We are a small and growing organization, seasonal opportunities can turn into long term positions and long term positions are evolving rapidly. We have offices in Vancouver and Chelatchie Prairie (Amboy) and work throughout the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Our work is exciting, challenging and rewarding. Our staff, volunteers and interns get to spend their time on one of the most amazing places on earth. We value creativity, open communication and flexibility.
At Steve & Kate’s, we believe that when you trust kids, they develop the confidence to trust themselves, and learn to use their own judgment. So we created a summer camp that puts kids in charge. So whether your child is a natural-born storyteller with a love for animation, or a budding chef, or a hacker-in-training, or a dance machine, they can dive into their passions in a world free from adult judgments and expectations.
Steve & Kate’s exists because we believe that kids can only reach their potential if we get out of their way. We think that schedules, curricula, and standardized tests get in the way of children’s natural creativity, so we trust kids with the freedom to make their own choices, learn from their mistakes, and come up with ideas that we never could have imagined. The same thing goes for how we hire people. We think that job titles and job descriptions are narrow and pointless; all they do is try to tell you that there’s only one way to do your job. Instead, we just hire amazing people and trust them with the freedom to tackle challenges however they see fit, and they come up with ideas we never could have imagined. Transition Projects delivers life-saving and life-changing assistance to some of Portland’s most vulnerable residents. Whether by helping a homeless veteran and her family find housing, sheltering hundreds of people each night with nowhere else to turn, or opening new pathways to employment, Transition Projects represents an invaluable part of Portland’s social fabric.
Transition Projects provides individuals with the services, resources and tools they need to end their homelessness, secure housing, and maintain that housing.
