In partnership with Mount Rainier National Park, the University of Washington operates the Mount Rainier Institute. Mount Rainier Institute is a residential environmental education program. Our mission is to provide outstanding nature-based education experiences that are rooted in science and nurture the next generation of environmental stewards and leaders. We are looking for skilled educators to help establish a solid program with one of the nation’s iconic National Parks.
Environmental Education Instructors lead youth and adults through field science investigations, and teach a variety of topics such as bio-diversity, natural history, geology, forestry, resource management, and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest. EE Instructors have the opportunity for professional growth through the development of their naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of ongoing development of a relatively new residential environmental education program. Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) values a diverse workforce and seeks ways to promote equity and inclusion within the organization. The Confluence AmeriCorps Program advances environmental justice by creating greater access to resource conservation initiatives, healthy watersheds, gardens and farms, parks and greenspaces, healthy homes and livable communities. We do this by building unique partnerships with community-based organizations, schools and government agencies who also value racial equity and social justice. Confluence AmeriCorps Members are carefully selected and placed within these organizations to lead and support various conservation projects that build leadership while increasing the organization’s ability to empower racially, culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations.
Exploring the roots of food and environmental stewardship
Zenger Farm's experiential and science-based programs teach youth and adults the importance of food, farming, wetland conservation and environmental stewardship in healthy urban communities. Participants learn that healthy food comes from healthy soil, which can be anywhere, even in the city. Zenger Farm provides opportunities for community members to get their hands dirty and learn where their food comes from. Mission: What we stand for
