The Audubon Society of Portland is committed to equality of opportunity for all through equity practices, both in our workplace and in access to nature. (See our Diversity Statement, here.) Civic engagement and staff diversity are core strategic goals, as illuminated by the report Green 2.0 and formalized by board-approved strategy. The Audubon Society of Portland is an equal opportunity organization that does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, marital status, familial status, national origin, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
In partnership with Mount Rainier National Park, the University of Washington operates the Mount Rainier Institute. Mount Rainier Institute is a residential environmental education program. Our mission is to provide outstanding nature-based education experiences that are rooted in science and nurture the next generation of environmental stewards and leaders. We are looking for skilled educators to help establish a solid program with one of the nation’s iconic National Parks.
Environmental Education Instructors lead youth and adults through field science investigations, and teach a variety of topics such as bio-diversity, natural history, geology, forestry, resource management, and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest. EE Instructors have the opportunity for professional growth through the development of their naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of ongoing development of a relatively new residential environmental education program. Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) values a diverse workforce and seeks ways to promote equity and inclusion within the organization. PP&R encourages candidates with knowledge, ability and experience working with a broad range of individuals and diverse communities. Although not required, PP&R encourages candidates that can fluently speak another language to include that information in your resume.

Multnomah Education Service District improves the lives of children and families by providing equitable, high quality, innovative, cost-effective and locally responsive educational, health and support services at a regional level in partnership with school districts and community agencies.
We work as a team dedicated to enhancing the learning of the communities' children by designing and delivering services responsive to family and component district needs. We strive to demonstrate leadership, wise utilization of resources, cooperative relationships with component districts and other agencies and a commitment to being a learning organization. Like traditional mentors, our mentors are adults that want to make a difference in the life of a young person by spending the time with them to build a caring relationship. But they are also something else—they are the senior member of a very special partnership, one that happens outdoors in the many great places that Portland has to offer, and one that respects a young person’s interests, abilities, and background, and allows them to make guided choices that will build their self-confidence and problem solving skills. Senior Partners serve as the bridge between a young person’s family, community, and school life, and the possibilities that exploring urban nature on their own terms can open up for learning about oneself and one’s place in the world.
If you are an adult over 21 who wants to share the urban outdoors with a young person in the 4th or 5th grade, and you possess the open mindedness to know that you can learn just as much as you can teach, then becoming a UNP Senior Partner might be for you! If you can commit 8 hours per month for a minimum of one year and have a reliable vehicle, get in touch with us! Males, adults of color, Spanish speakers, and environmental/social services professionals are especially needed. The Confluence AmeriCorps Program advances environmental justice by creating greater access to resource conservation initiatives, healthy watersheds, gardens and farms, parks and greenspaces, healthy homes and livable communities. We do this by building unique partnerships with community-based organizations, schools and government agencies who also value racial equity and social justice. Confluence AmeriCorps Members are carefully selected and placed within these organizations to lead and support various conservation projects that build leadership while increasing the organization’s ability to empower racially, culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations.
Exploring the roots of food and environmental stewardship
Zenger Farm's experiential and science-based programs teach youth and adults the importance of food, farming, wetland conservation and environmental stewardship in healthy urban communities. Participants learn that healthy food comes from healthy soil, which can be anywhere, even in the city. Zenger Farm provides opportunities for community members to get their hands dirty and learn where their food comes from. Mission: What we stand for
Inspire curiosity through engaging science learning experiences, foster experimentation and the exchange of ideas, and stimulate informed action. Vision: Where we're going OMSI, collaborating with partners, will ignite an education transformation at the intersection of science, technology and design, and weave a thriving innovation district into the fabric of Portland, that spreads opportunities across the Northwest. |
